The inhabitants in Nord-Leangen lived by fishing and holdings. In 1948 the first prawnboat from Lenangen started trawling for shrimps. The locals were both excited and sceptical. The prawn trawling was a success and very profitable for the village. In 1963 they started a shrimp factory and it stayed the largest factory in the village until 2007 when the factory was closed because it was no longer profitable.
Boats from Lenangen are still trawling for shimps, and it is possible to buy these shimps on the market square in Tromsø. The shrimps hold very high quality and have an incredible taste.
