Prawns

from

Lenangen

The inhabitants in Nord-Leangen lived by fishing and holdings. In 1948 the first prawnboat from Lenangen started trawling for shrimps. The locals were both excited and sceptical. The prawn trawling was a success and very profitable for the village. In 1963 they started a shrimp factory and it stayed the largest factory in the village until 2007 when the factory was closed because it was no longer profitable.

Boats from Lenangen are still trawling for shimps, and it is possible to buy these shimps on the market square in Tromsø. The shrimps hold very high quality and have an incredible taste.

A new prawn factory was established on Lenagsøyra. Have a look at the link Lyngenreker

The factory's vision is to be one of Norway's leading supplier of fresh quality prawns.

The products from Lyngenreker are called Lyngenfjord and are delivered in these varieties.:

Extra large pickled prawns, pickled prawns without shell, pickled prawns and pickled prawns with shell.

Frank Ole Hansen sells shrimps on the market square in Tromsø. The shrimps are from Lenangen. If you are in Tromsø you should definitely stop by and taste the juicy shrimps and buy a couple of kilos to bring back home.

Are you one of those who just get rid of the shell and then start eating the shrimp? Have a look at one or more of the shrimp recipes. Follow the links on the right hand side. It is incredible how many delicious varieties of shrimp meals you can find. Shimps are perfect for small gatherings and larger parties as well.

A few examples: Shrimp sallad, shimps in salsa or lemon grass soup with shrimps, I can recomment visiting Finny Sirevaag's page to have a look at some great pictures and recipes

Stig's pickle recipe,

for prawns
